About me
I studied in the UK to become a multilingual secretary, obtaining qualifications in English, French and German, then at 21 I moved to France and have remained there since. I consider it a privilege to live in an enriching multilingual environment. I love to read, to write (especially funny poetry), to crochet (and yes, I can even proofread crochet patterns using French, UK or US terminology). I enjoy weekly coffee and croissant dates with my friends, I dabble in drawing and painting, I love my allotment, and I’m an active member of a community chicken coop.
I decided to create my own freelance business after several decades working for an international trade union NGO, where I gained experience with NGO policies (more specifically trade union rights, whistleblowing, and municipal services), vocabulary, meetings and documentation. Early in my career, I became eager to improve the English language quality of the documents and correspondence published by the organisation. Proofreading rapidly became a major aspect of my job, together with drafting and editing articles, correspondence, and sometimes lengthy publications, and writing and uploading web pages.
I am keen on maintaining and sharing my editing skills, and I keep a blog, an Instagram account, and a Facebook page, in which I offer some tips and tricks. I recently completed an online certification course in proofreading and editing to make sure my knowledge and experience were still up to scratch, and I’m pleased to report that I received an excellent grade.
